CALLA LILY BOUQUET

Hey there, *edited* I originally had this scheduled to post over the holiday weekend while hubby and I were away camping in the rain...but for some reason, it didn't publish.  D'oh!  Here it is...better late than never!

My mom's birthday is in June so I wanted to have a card ready early (for once!).  I absolutely LOVE coloring the Taylored Expressions bouquets!  This is the Calla Lily Bouquet and it's teamed up with several of the TE dies.  It's on the same line as the out-of-the-box with a Nestie technique...but it's a little different using the Instant Photo Frames die.  The bouquet was stamped on a piece of Neenah then sized to fit the photo frame.  I cut around the flowers like with the out-of-the-box technique then fitted the frame around them...pulling the flowers forward and pushing the background behind the photo frame.  The ribbon is seam binding that was died to match the vase and the rhinestones were colored with BG72.  I think this card turned out very elegant...hope she likes it!

COPIC COLORING:

TAYLORED EXPRESSIONS MAY STUDIO CHALLENGE

Hey there, it's time for the Taylored Expressions Baker's Dozen Studio Challenge (a monthly opportunity for the DT to share what makes our stamping studios hum...each month we're asked a fun, crafty question so we can share our favorite products, tips/tricks, stamping advice and more).

The question for May is:
What is your favorite time of the year?  Some of us love the sunshine and heat and summer, while some of us long for the crisp cool air of fall.  Do spring flowers make your heart sing or is it snow and the smell of pine needles that makes you jolly?  Tell us about your favorite month or season and also tell us about your favorite time of year to stamp.

My favorite time of year has always been the fall.  I love seeing the trees turn the most beautiful shades of yellow, orange and red before falling to the ground.  Last year, for my first month on Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen, I made a card with a leaf falling into a puddle...well, I thought I would CASE myself to make a page for my perpetual calendar.

Three circle Nesties were cut to use as masks.  The background was sponged with Summer Sky.  The first mask was set into place then Bahama Blue and Paris Dusk were sponged to create a ring (the same steps were used to create the other two rings).  The leaves were colored with Copic markers before being shaped with a stylus and computer mouse pad.  A piece of foam was placed under the centers and the tips curled back for extra dimension (of course that you can't see it in these pictures).  Glossy accents were put on the leaf to mimic rain drops.

COPIC COLORING:
MAPLE LEAF:  G28, G24, G21, G20, YR15, YR12  OAK LEAF:  G28, G24, G21, G20, E23

TECHNIQUE(S):  Masking; sponging
SIZE OF FINISHED PROJECT:  4" x 4" (top panel)

My favorite time of year to stamp...also the fall.  Actually, fall through winter and into the spring.  My hubby and I spend a lot of time at our friend's property up the Coos river from late spring through late summer/early fall.  When salmon season rolls around, hubby is off fishing and I take to my stamping room.  He spends every minute he can fishing for Chinook Salmon.  His season usually lasts a couple of months then he gets ready for a couple months of Steelhead fishing.  Between hubby's fishing obsession and the rainy days on the Oregon coast, I have months of guilt free stamping!  *grin*

I made a second page for my perpetual calendar showing a pretty winter scene.  I'm in love with the Birch Tree Border die and couldn't wait to use it again!  The trees were cut out of Neenah Solar White and colored with Copic markers then set aside.  I flicked some masking fluid onto the background panel with a toothbrush.  I had a little too much on the brush and a big blob dropped onto the panel...oops!  No worries...I like the different sized drops!  Since the inks were still out from the puddle/leaf page, I used them again.  All three inks were sponged onto the panel (after the masking fluid dried completely) then the masking fluid was rubbed off to reveal the snow filled sky.  So fun!  A scrap of Neenah was torn to create the snowy ground (Stickles were used on the torn edge).  The trees were popped up on foam and a Make a Snowflake was used to complete the calendar page.  The snowflakes all have Stickles and a rhinestone on them.

BAZZILL PRODUCT SWAP - HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!

Hey there, I'm super excited to be participating in a product swap between Taylored Expressions and Bazzill Basics.  Woot woot!  I absolutely LOVE Bazzill and use their cardstock on just about every project!  They have awesome pattern papers too!

My project today is to honor all those dads out there.  I started by punching a 1" circle sticky note mask for the sun then masking the horizon.  I sponged Dandelion, Cantaloupe, Peanut Brittle, Potter's Clay and Lady Bug for the sky.  The circle mask was removed and Dandelion and Cantaloupe were sponged on the sun.  A new mask was put into place to cover the sky and another jagged mask was torn for the sand.  Summer Sky, Bahama Blue and Paris Dusk were sponged for the water.  The masks were removed and Desert Sand was sponged on the bottom.  A Sakura White Glaze pen was used to dot the surf where the chairs were going to be and to draw lines in the ocean (waves).  The chairs are from A Day in Paradise (love this set!).  They were stamped with Tuxedo Black, colored with Copic markers then fussy cut.  Before they were glued to the panel, Copic markers were used to create shadows in the sand.  A sailor's knot and sentiment tag complete the card.

Here's a close up pic of the knot...

TAYLORED EXPRESSIONS MAY SPOTLIGHTS - BIRCH TREE BORDER & BIRCH TREE ACCESSORIES

Hey there, whew...what an exciting week of awesome projects from the Baker's Dozen, huh?  The May release is now available in the Fresh out of the Oven section of the Taylored Expressions store.  Go check it out!  Hubby and I both have the day off, so we thought we would go for a drive and pick up our hanging baskets for the house.  It's 1 1/2 hours one way...but they always have beautiful flowers to choose from at great prices...totally worth the drive!

Before I go, I thought I would share one last card made with dies from the new release.  I'm in love with the Birch Tree Border die!  It's an easy way to make a masculine card and I've got a bunch of guy birthdays coming up so this die couldn't have come at a better time!  Even better...the Birch Tree Accessories!  Those guy birthdays I was just talking about...a bunch of them are hunters so I think they will really get a kick out of these cards.  To make this moonlit night card, a layer of Sweet Plum was sponged over the entire card stock before a negative mask (1 1/4" circle punch) was placed over the moon area.  Elderberry and London Fog were lightly sponged onto the moon.  The negative mask was removed and the punched circle was placed directly over the moon and Elderberry was sponged around the moon and the outsides of the card stock.  The die cuts were adhered over the sponged panel...that's all there is to it!  Easy peasy!

TAYLORED EXPRESSIONS MAY RELEASE DAY: CURLY SWIRLIES

Hey there, woohooooo...Happy Release Day!  The girls have really outdone themselves with this release...everyone's projects have been AMAZING!  Don't forget that starting today, all of the new dies and stamps are available for purchase in the Fresh out of the Oven section of the Taylored Expressions store.  Happy shopping!

I was given the task of creating two totally different projects using the same Curly Swirlies die.  Whoop whoop, I love this die...it's so elegant and could be used for so many different things!  This tag was simple and so fun to create!  A girl just NEEDS to get inky once in a while!  *grin*  The Tag Stacklets 1 die was used to cut two tags...one from card stock and the other from Bazzill's Antique Sheet Music then they were adhered together (the music paper was a little thin so the card stock was used for stability).  The swirls were cut from Copic Mask It and positioned on the tag before four colors of Memento ink were sponged and the masks removed.  The seam binding bow was died to match the top portion of the tag and a butterfly (Elegant Butterflies and Elegant Butterflies Overlays) with rhinestones that were colored with Copic markers finish the tag.  I decided not to go with a sentiment for now.  When I figure out what I want to use this for, I'll stamp/die cut a sentiment to attach to the top.

My good friend's nephew is getting married this summer so I wanted to make a card for him.  I think there's something really, really classy about a white on white wedding card, dont you?  OMGosh, I broke out so many dies to make this!  Ready for the rundown?  Fleur De Lis Accents from Spellbinders was used for the border and topped with the new Curly Swirlies die.  Die cut flowers from Friendship Blooms, Mini Leaves, Bugabee Flowers and even Flowerbox Sprigs & Flowers were used to create the beautiful cluster.  The flowers were shaped with a stylus, soft/spongy pad and tweezers.  I really love the look of dimensional flowers!  They are so much fun to create not to mention how amazing they look!  The sentiment is from the new Lifetime of Love stamp set and was die cut using the Tag Stacklets 1 die.  A corner of the tag was curled under and popped up on foam to give it a little shape.  A Sparklet makes a beautiful center for the big flower and silver rhinestones were used for the smaller flowers then a few extras were scattered around the card.  I just LOVE making wedding cards!  It's such a special occasion and deserves a special card!

JUN13VSNMINI4 - CHUCK WAGON

Hey there, woohoo...this is the last card for the Virtual Stamp Night (VSN) mini through Splitcoaststampers.  The main event will be in June.  Meredith's challenge, Hot Dog!, was to create a card with a dog image and incorporate heat embossing.  Fun challenge!  The dog image I used is Chuck Wagon from Whipper Snapper Designs.  I heat embossed the bone on the banner which is also from WSD, but I don't know the name of it.  The CAS layout is from My Favorite Things...love it!

There's still time for you to play in the VSN challenges...you have until Monday, May 06, to upload your projects.  I hope you dig out those "puppy dog stamps and heat embossing stuff" and play along with us!

JUN13VSNMINI5 - FULL SPEED AHEAD

Hey there, this card is for my Dog Days of Summer VSN challenge through Splitcoaststampers.  I challenged everyone to create a project that showcases your favorite way to BEAT THE HEAT, whether it's going to the beach, the lake, camping, indulging in your favorite beverage, cranking the air conditioning or even driving with the top down.  Whatever it is...I want to see it!  I hope you'll play along!

My card uses Whipper Snapper Designs, Full Speed Ahead, stamp set.  I've been hoping to color this one up for a while now but have never had the opportunity...until now!  Woot!  The image was stamped with Tuxedo Black onto Neenah Solar White then colored with Copic markers.  The headlight, windshield and girl's eyes all have clear glaze pen for a nice, subtle shine.  It doesn't show, but I'm pretty sure there's an Oregon Duck bumper sticker on the back of that car...GO DUCKS!  *grin*
